Five and a half years ago, James Ballentine noticed a small lump on his neck while shaving. He asked his doctor about it, and a biopsy revealed that he had metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. Under the care of UAMS oncologist Dr. Omar Atiq, otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon Dr. Emre Vural, and Samantha Rose, APRN, he had surgery at UAMS to remove nine cancerous lymph nodes, underwent chemotherapy, and had daily radiation treatments for six weeks. He’s been cancer-free since his last radiation treatment in October 2017 and is grateful for the time he spends with his two daughters, his grandson, and his friends and colleagues at 103.7 “The Buzz.”
“The faith I had in the entire UAMS staff during my journey was unquestionable. My life was literally in their hands, and I knew the care and support they gave me was the best I could receive anywhere. I am so very thankful to UAMS for saving my life.” – James Ballentine, Little Rock
