Dr. C. Lowry Barnes, orthopaedic hip and knee surgeon, discusses how technologies available at UAMS Health, such as computerized custom modeling and radiographic positioning, are used to provide the best hip and knee replacements possible.
[Dr. C. Lowry Barnes, Hip and Knee Surgeon, Chair of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery]
At UAMS, we have all the technology we need to provide the best hip and knee replacement surgery that can be provided. We do preoperative planning with use a computer. We do custom modeling of bones to make sure that we have the right implant for the patient. We take special digital x-rays on a system called Radlink, intraoperatively, that gives us the ability to measure certain angles, positioning of components, etc., to make sure that we are restoring that patient’s anatomy to the preoperative plan that we had for them.
