Transcript

I’m Chelsea Mathews. I’m an orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon and I practice at UAMS. I think what I enjoy most about foot and ankle orthopaedics  is that it’s so functional. We walk, we stand, we do these things every day and there’s hardly a  day when you can go without doing them so if you have pain when you’re walking if you have pain  just to get in and out of bed there’s something I can help you with um and it makes a really big  difference in your day-to-day life no matter how active or how strong you are. In foot and ankle  orthopedics there’s a lot that we see probably the most common that we see is deformity and that  may be a flat foot or a bunion. Second to that I
think would be arthritis and that can be anywhere  from the tips of the toes all the way up to the ankle um and then lastly would be some trauma so people who have fallen or twisted their ankle and they have a fracture and those are are something  that we can fix and that we can help make better. I think the biggest benefit of coming to see me at UAMS is the host of resources that I have. So we have any medical subspecialty and truly experts in  the field um within a finger’s reach. We also have the absolutely best hospital um for you to have  surgery at at the orthopedic and spine hospital. It’s beautiful, it’s clean, it’s full of team  members who want to be there who want to help you and will absolutely elevate your experience in  what can be a pretty tough time. I think I want my patients to know that I care about them and their  life and so I want them succeeding at the things that they enjoy it doesn’t matter how good the  X-ray looks or how quick the surgery went but if you’re doing better in doing the things you want  to do that makes me happy. So aside from being an
orthopedic surgeon I’m also a fitness coach and I coach kickboxing and strength training classes at Jolly Bodies. That’s usually early in the morning  um but it’s a great way for me to engage in things that I enjoy like fitness and making people  healthier um outside of the surgical setting.
