[Dr. C. Lowry Barnes, Hip and Knee Surgeon, Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery]

Hi, I’m Lowry Barnes. I’m the chair of orthopaedics at UAMS and I am a hip and knee surgeon.

I’ve been doing this for more than 25 years. I was the first person on either side of the family to even go to college. But as a young kid — I was five or six — and for some reason I was excited about medicine and never wanted to do anything else. It just kind of happened.

So, i enjoy treating arthritis of the hip and knee as well as patients who’ve had hip or knee replacements done — have had problems and then come to see us. Now as far as hip and knee revisions — when somebody has had one, and now they have a problem with it — and fortunately, we see a lot of those patients because patients have been referred to us — from not only around Arkansas, but from the surrounding states — because there aren’t too many people who have a team of orthopaedic surgeons who like taking care of the most complex problems related to the hip and knee.
