Women’s Health for Healthy Aging

The Years Ahead Are Yours to Live Well

Getting older doesn’t mean accepting decline. It means being intentional about your health so you can keep doing the things that matter to you. UAMS Health provides expert, comprehensive care for women in their 60s, 70s, and beyond, with a focus on staying active, staying independent, and catching problems early when they’re most treatable.

Care for Women Who Want to Keep Going

Gynecologic Care and Preventive Screening
Routine gynecologic care doesn’t stop at menopause. Regular pelvic exams, Pap smear evaluation based on your history, and cervical cancer screening according to current guidelines are important parts of maintaining your health at any age. Our providers stay current on recommendations and tailor screening to your individual history.

Breast Health and Cancer Screening
Breast cancer risk continues to increase with age, making regular mammography and clinical breast exams essential. The UAMS Breast Center offers mammography, breast MRI, ultrasound, and biopsy services. If a concern is found, you have immediate access to the full breast cancer care team at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

Gynecologic Cancer Screening and Treatment
UAMS is home to the state’s only gynecologic oncologists, located within the NCI-designated Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. For women who develop ovarian, uterine, cervical, or vulvar cancer, UAMS offers the most advanced treatment options available in Arkansas, including clinical trials.

Pelvic Floor and Urogynecology
Bladder leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic discomfort are common in older women and are highly treatable. Our urogynecologists and pelvic floor physical therapists offer a range of options, from pelvic floor physical therapy and nonsurgical devices to advanced minimally invasive surgery.

Bone Health and Osteoporosis
After menopause, bone loss accelerates, increasing the risk of fracture. We provide bone density testing, fracture risk assessment, and individualized plans for protecting your bones through nutrition, exercise, medication, and monitoring.

Heart Health Awareness
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, and risk increases significantly after menopause. While primary cardiology care is handled by our cardiovascular team, our women’s health providers partner with you on prevention, risk awareness, and coordination of care.

Mental Health and Cognitive Wellbeing
Mood changes, anxiety, grief, and cognitive shifts can all affect women as they age. UAMS women’s mental health specialists provide evaluation, therapy referrals, and medication management in a setting that understands the unique factors affecting older women’s mental health.

Medication Management and Hormonal Health
For women who have been on hormone therapy, ongoing evaluation is important to ensure the approach continues to be appropriate for your health status. Our providers offer regular review and adjustment as your needs change over time.

Sexual Health
Changes in sexual health don’t have to be permanent or silent. Our providers offer evaluation and treatment for vaginal atrophy, discomfort, and changes in function that are common in postmenopausal women.
