Also called: Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, involves removing excess skin and sometimes fat from the upper or lower eyelid. This is performed to help restore a youthful appearance to the eyes. It can also help improve vision by removing skin obstructing the visual fields. With age, the delicate structures of the eyelids tend to relax. Therefore, it is sometimes necessary to tighten or re-suspend these structures to improve appearance and, in some cases, prevent complications such as lower lid malposition. For the upper lid, this may involve repair of a drooping eyelid, also known as blepharoptosis. For the lower lid, this may include a variety of procedures aimed at repositioning and tightening the lid against the eye.
The aesthetic appearance of the eyes is influenced by the lids as well as the brow position. As such, it may be necessary to lift the brows in conjunction with a blepharoplasty.
