About Dr. Overley

Clinical Biography

Samuel C. Overley, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in surgical and nonsurgical treatment for a wide variety of spinal conditions, including cervical, thoracic and lumbar problems as well as spine tumors and trauma. His mentorship from both neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons has given him unique experience in treating a wide range of spinal conditions as well as performing minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Overley graduated summa cum laude in Honors Studies with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. He earned his medical degree with highest honors from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York, where he was elected chief resident. This was followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Alongside his clinical role, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery within the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Dr. Overley was selected an American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leader in 2017 and received a Best Paper Award from the Global Spine Journal for his 2017 manuscript “Return to Play in Contact Athletes Following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion: a Meta-Analysis.”

In 2022, Dr. Overley was named one of the nation’s outstanding young spine care providers by the North American Spine Society’s SpineLine magazine in its fifth annual “20 Under 40” list honoring spine professionals under the age of 40.
