Immediately after surgery, while I was in the hospital, communication from the Surgery group was almost nonexistent. They sent a medical student to check on me. She didn't know any more about how I should be recovering than I did. This left me wondering if anyone was overseeing my care or monitoring my progress. Two weeks later at the surgery clinic, Dr. Bruce explained the recovery process and answered my questions, which was very helpful but this kind of conversation should have occurred while I was in the hospital, not 18 days later. While in the hospital, I was given no information about what to expect during recovery or what I could do to help in my recovery.

I explained to the provider about my health and pain concerns and was sent home without help for the next day. I was explained to by the provider that a CT would be ordered and a pain Management referral would be ordered. I received notification that the CT was ordered for 6/14/2021 which is in 2 weeks. There is more but I am hurting and having muscle spasm in my right upper back.

While I was only in the waiting room around 20 minutes, I spent another 90+ in the examination room with no contact. After 60 minutes, I asked a nurse and I was informed that they would get to me when they could. Since I told my employer I would be back after 2 hours (I am a teacher), I was about to leave without being examined when the doctor came in. While the information was on point, I'm not sure the doctor actually took the time to listen to my real concerns...he was only concerned with the fact that I shouldn't get surgery. While I understand the reasons, there was no attempt to address the real issue which was how to live with several hernias and a mesh while still trying to work. Nurses and admin staff were great.
