About Dr. ElHassan

Clinical Biography

Nahed O. ElHassan, M.D., MPH, is a professor of pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. ElHassan’s clinical responsibilities focus on caring for infants with diverse neonatal pathologies at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital neonatal intensive care unit. She developed the Division of Neonatology NICU Guideline Handbook and Electronic Application.

Dr. ElHassan's Academic Background

Academic Biography

Dr. ElHassan attended medical school at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. She completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She also received a master’s degree in public health at the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Public Health Sciences in Rochester, New York.

She is completing a doctorate in pharmaceutical evaluation and policy at the UAMS Graduate School.

Dr. ElHassan's Research

Dr. ElHassan’s early research interest was in neonatal nutrition. More recently, Dr. ElHassan’s interest has shifted to the health outcomes of the neonate. She is especially interested in evaluating the short and long term outcomes of different neonatal pathologies by designing studies based on registries and large administrative studies. In 2019, she was selected to join the inaugural class of the Data Scholars Program at the Translational Research Institute at UAMS.
