Clinical Biography

Mary Katherine “Katie” Kimbrough, M.D., is a physician and professor in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at UAMS. She is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certified Course Director and Instructor, and she specializes in the care of critically ill and/or injured patients.

Dr. Kimbrough's Academic Background

Academic Biography

Dr. Kimbrough obtained her bachelor’s degree at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport for medical school and general surgery residency. Dr. Kimbrough completed a trauma and surgical critical care fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans. Dr. Kimbrough is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and surgical critical care.

Nationally, Dr. Kimbrough is an active member in the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), the Southwestern Surgical Congress (SWSC), the Association for Surgical Education (ASE), and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and an Associate Member of the highly selective American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.

At UAMS, Dr. Kimbrough is the Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery and serves as an associate program director of the general surgery residency. She previously served as program director of the general surgery residency and as program director of the surgical critical care fellowship, having created this fellowship from the ground-up at UAMS. An award-winning educator, Dr. Kimbrough is actively involved in medical student and resident education and is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of surgeons. She actively supports medical students interested in surgery and advocates for women pursuing surgical careers.
