About Dr. Singh

Clinical Biography

Dr Manisha Singh is an Assistant Professor at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).  She is an academic clinician and an educator having a unique insight into patient needs, medical education as well as research needs in the area of patient care.

She received her medical degree from Rajendra Medical College (now known as RIIMS) in India, after which she served as Medical Officer and Assistant Civil Surgeon for the state of Jharkhand. She worked in remote villages taking care of a diverse population wearing multiple hats as the primary care physician (PCP); she has been an obstetrician, surgeon, patient educator and mentor to students and families. She then changed careers to be a full-time educator at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India, after which she moved to the United States.  She completed her residency in internal medicine at UAMS and continued to do her fellowship in nephrology at UAMS.

Dr. Singh joined the division of nephrology in 2015 and is currently the director for home dialysis program for UAMS as well as for the Veterans Hospital (VA) in Little Rock. She also has a clinic dedicated to chronic kidney disease (CKD) at UAMS. She takes care of patients on peritoneal dialysis, home hemodialysis and also a few in-center outpatient hemodialysis. She sees a large number of patients from every walk of life, starting from CKD to long-term and terminal dialysis patients.

She is a well-known leader in her field actively involved in community service. She is a fellow of American Society of nephrology. The designation “Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology” (FASN) honors members of the Society who have distinguished themselves through excellence in practice or research. FASN status represents recognition by the Society of outstanding credentials, high professional achievement, commitment to the field, and demonstrated scholarship.

She serves as a counselor with Women in Nephrology, a national forum. She is also serving as secretary to American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin- Arkansas (AAPI-Ar) a community of physicians aiming to improve healthcare for all Arkansans.

Dr Singh’s research interests are related to CKD, Telemedicine and CKD education, women health, biases and disparities, medical education, diabetic kidney disease and humanities in medicine. She received NKF young investigator award 2019 for working in the area of early CKD.

    Dr Singh would be the kind of doctor I would completely be comfortable to go to. She is very intelligent and thorough. She explains everything clearly and is very detailed in her treatment. She is also very friendly and approachable.

    The doctor Dr Manisha Singh was attentive to everything I said and was extremely thorough in her knowledge and treatment. Not only was she pleasant and made me feel very comfortable, but she also communicated well regarding the treatment plan. I will highly recommend her to other patients
