Clinical Biography

Jeffrey B. Stambough, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in primary and complex revision hip and knee replacement. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in managing challenging cases including periprosthetic joint infection, periprosthetic fractures, implant failure, and complex reconstruction. His approach integrates meticulous surgical technique, data-driven decision making, and enhanced recovery protocols to relieve pain, restore function, and help patients return to the activities that define their quality of life.

Dr. Stambough serves as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and is the Director of the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, where he trains the next generation of hip and knee replacement surgeons. He also serves as Physician Lead for Joint Commission Hip & Knee Certification and has played a central role in institutional quality improvement initiatives, bundled payment strategy, opioid stewardship, and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures.

A national leader in arthroplasty education and research, Dr. Stambough currently serves as Education Committee Chair for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and as Deputy Editor of the Annual Report for the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR). He is an active member of the prestigious Knee Society and an Emerging Leader in the American Orthopaedic Association. Through these roles, he contributes to national guidelines, registry analytics, and surgeon education that shape joint replacement care across the country.

Dr. Stambough has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading orthopaedic journals and has been recognized as an Avant-Garde Health Orthopaedic Research All-Star (Top 1% Nationwide). His work spans implant longevity, infection management, anesthesia selection, opioid reduction strategies, registry-based outcomes research, and value-based care delivery. He has received multiple national research awards, including The Mark Coventry Award from The Knee Society and recognition for top podium presentations at national meetings.

A committed educator, Dr. Stambough is a multiple-time recipient of the UAMS Red Sash Teaching Award, recognizing outstanding faculty selected by graduating medical students. He lectures nationally on revision hip and knee arthroplasty, rapid recovery protocols, infection treatment strategies, and health system optimization.

Originally born in Philadelphia and raised in Cincinnati, Dr. Stambough graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University before earning his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis and fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Stambough enjoys spending time with his wife, Kate, their two sons, Benjamin and William, and their five pets (three dogs and two cats).
