Condition: Lymphedema

Lymphedema occurs when the body’s white blood cell producing tissues and organs (a.k.a. the lymphatic system) is damaged or blocked. Fluid builds up in soft body tissues and causes swelling. Lymphedema is often a result of damage or removal of the lymph nodes as part of cancer treatement.  Lymphedema usually affects an arm or a leg, but it can also affect other parts of the body. While it is often not life-threatening, Lymphedema can cause long-term physical, psychological, and social problems for patients.  Learn more
