Comprehensive Care at Home

UAMS Health Comprehensive Care at Home brings all the essential elements of an inpatient hospital stay into patients’ homes through a program called Recovery Care at Home, allowing them to safely receive treatment for their medical condition in the place they most want to be - home. Recovery Care at Home services are currently available to our patients at UAMS in Little Rock, AR.

What to Expect in Recovery Care at Home

First Few Days

Once you choose Recovery Care at Home, you will be sent home instead of being admitted into the hospital. Your Recovery Care at Home journey begins the moment you leave the emergency department. An acute care registered nurse will visit you at least twice a day for the first few days, or longer, right in the comfort of your own home. All the necessary equipment you will need is delivered to your door and set up for you, such as an IV or oxygen. You will receive a remote patient monitoring kit that includes a pulse oximeter, blood pressure cuff, scale, thermometer and a computer tablet, which allows you to see and talk with your doctor from home and communicate with your care team. The computer tablet is provided at no additional cost and must be returned upon your completion of the program.

Your registered nurse will:

  • Take your vitals, such as blood pressure, temperature and weight
  • Administer IV medications
  • Help you take your medications
  • Assist you with pain management
  • Serve as an advocate for your care

In addition to your in-home registered nurse, you will also have 24/7 virtual access to a licensed nurse known as a Recovery Care Coordinator. Your Recovery Care Coordinator will be your main point of contact for questions or concerns.

Your Recovery Care Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate and communicate your care with your doctor(s), including your primary care physician and other specialists
  • Monitor your vitals daily
  • Answer your medication questions
  • Assist in scheduling your follow-up appointments
  • Provide you with health education
