Clinical Resource: What is an Ankle Arthroscopy?

Description

In this video, Dr. Parham provides a clear and concise overview of ankle arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat a variety of ankle joint problems. Whether you’re dealing with chronic ankle pain, instability, or a sports injury, this procedure might be the solution to help you get back on your feet.

Learn how ankle arthroscopy is performed, what conditions it can treat, what to expect during recovery, and how it compares to traditional open surgery. Dr. Parham also shares insights on patient outcomes and when this procedure is typically recommended.

Transcript

So ankle arthroscopy has been around for a while. It’s a way for us to insert a small camera into the joint to look at the various  parts of the joint. Whether that’s the cartilage or the ligaments, we get a better idea because  MRI can only show you so much. Typically ankle
arthroscopy is done from the front which is called  anterior but I did a special fellowship in which we were trying to do ankle arthroscopy from the back as well so it gives me a better ability to visualize more of the ankle and have more tools  in my bag to treat the whole problem.
