Transcript

I’m Paul Inclan. I’m an orthopedic surgeon in sports medicine at the University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences and I’m the head team physician for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
I think as I progressed through my  high school and college years when you’re trying to figure out what you want to be athletics was a big part of my life. I played you know football in high school and that was kind of part of who  you are in high school and then I went on to play football in college. I trained at Washington University in St Louis as many of my colleagues at UAMS have which is just down the road and went  on to do my fellowship at the hospital for special surgery in Manhattan New York City where I was able to be the assistant team physician for the New York Giants as a sports medicine surgeon.
The primary conditions I see are ligament and tendon injuries and the shoulder that looks like  shoulder instability so dislocating shoulders or rotator cuff tears in the hip that’s commonly  labral tears or injury to the cartilage within the hip and in the knee. I think the archetypal Sports Medicine surgery or the go-to procedure we perform is reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament or the ACL which is one of the more common injuries we see. We can take care of any condition you have right here and it’s going to be the same quality of care that  you can get at the biggest institutions across the country because that’s where many of us have trained and that’s where we learned to do our surgical procedures and indications and so for  Arkansans that we’re treating what I want them to know is we can give world class care right here and I’m proud to be a part of that.
I think one of the things we talk commonly about in my clinic  is who are you and that means what do you do, what do you like to do, whether it’s for work, recreation, hobby. Are you an athlete? Are you a weekend warrior? Do you just need your shoulder and elbow to work? Do you need your knee just to be able to play with your kids? And my goal is to understand those goals and then provide you options to get back to them and hope that involves  nonoperative care whether it be medications, an injection, physical therapy, but you should  be informed about all your options and make the decision that is best for you and get you  back to doing what you want to do.
