Questions and Answers
What inspired you to work in healthcare?
During my last year of undergraduate work, I was a vocal music major at that time and taking a neuroscience course for my minor. I realized that instead of teaching, I wanted to help others in a different way by carrying over my knowledge of voice and vocal health to those with voice, language, and other communication disorders.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is seeing my patients be able to do the things that bring them joy and better quality of life again, such as speaking clearer with loved ones, eating safely again, singing with ease, hearing better with their cochlear implant, or relearning to read and write after a stroke.
What do you like about working at UAMS?
I like that UAMS is such a diverse place without a shortage of perspectives. I love being able to collaborate with colleagues, work on a multidisciplinary team, or “pick” people’s brains on a daily basis.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life, and why?
The biggest influences on my life are my mom, who is so generous with her love and time, and my kids, who keep me ever motivated to set a healthy and loving example for them as a parent.
What book, podcast, TV show, or activity are you enjoying right now, and why?
I currently am enjoying yoga because it’s my “me time.”
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to take a culinary tour of Italy with my mom.
