Transcript

I’m Sean Parham. I’m an Orthopaedic Surgeon. I’m  fellowship trained and specialized in foot and ankle surgery. I’m an Arkansan through and through. I’ve always sided with the people here and feel like I’m one of them being from Fort Smith. So I snuck out to a couple different places for my training but always knew that I was going to come back. I chose my specialty because in orthopaedics you know a lot of times people know what to do  with shoulder and hip problems but the typical Arkansan and whenever they have a foot problem they just tend to tie their boots a little bit tighter. So there’s a lot of times by the time they’ve gotten to me they’ve been dealing with
it for a long time and it gives me a really  good opportunity to get them back to what they want to do, get them pain-free and have good outcomes. The first thing that I expect a patient to get from me when they come to see me  is a smiling friendly face. That’s kind of always who I am day in and day out. The second thing is someone who knows them well. I’m from Arkansas around the area so I typically know what most  people are going through and the last thing is I want everyone to be able to get is a good outcome when they see me I want everyone to leave better
after they’ve interacted with me than when they  first saw me. When talking about types of patients it’s one of the benefits of my specialty is I see patients from all walks of life. I treat everything from the high school athlete who  ruptured their achilles tendon and wants to go on and play college sports to you know the older population who just want to be able to walk pain-free be with their family and be with their grandkids so it’s really hard to pick a favorite because I’m pretty blessed and I got to see so many different types of patients. The biggest benefit that any patient can get from seeing me at UAMS is just the vastness of the institution that is UAMS. What I mean by that is a lot of problems manifest in foot and ankle symptoms but it’s not something that I can treat with surgery so whether it’s someone with poor bone quality I need to get them to an endocrinologist they’re in house. If  someone has early signs of rheumatoid arthritis we have rheumatologists in house. It just makes the care so comprehensive and so well-rounded here and that was one of the reasons why I wanted  to come back and join for sure.
