Treatment of hyperglycemia in critically ill 2015-07-16T10:12:51-05:00

Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose), is common among critically ill patients, and is associated with increased in-hospital complications, such as infection and mortality. The American Diabetes Association’s Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes-2007 recommend that blood glucose levels should be kept as close as possible to 110 milligrams per deciliter. For people with diabetes who are critically ill, this level of control will generally require intravenous insulin.
