Every Stage of Your Pregnancy Journey, Covered
Prenatal Care
Regular prenatal care is the foundation of a healthy pregnancy. Our OB/GYNs, certified nurse midwives, and obstetrics nurse practitioners provide personalized prenatal visits, monitoring, screenings, and support from your first trimester through delivery.
High-Risk Pregnancy and Maternal-Fetal Medicine
UAMS is home to Central Arkansas’s only maternal-fetal medicine specialists, also called perinatologists. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk due to a pre-existing condition, pregnancy complication, or fetal concern, these specialists provide an additional layer of expert oversight and co-management. UAMS Medical Center is also a recognized Center of Excellence for Placenta Accreta Spectrum, a serious childbirth complication.
Certified Nurse Midwives
UAMS offers certified nurse midwives who provide personalized, hands-on care through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, as well as routine well-woman care from puberty through menopause. Midwifery care at UAMS is fully integrated with our OB/GYN and hospital teams, so you always have the right level of support available.
CenteringPregnancy Program
CenteringPregnancy is a group-based prenatal care model that combines your regular health check-up with education and peer support. It’s prenatal care that gives you more time, more knowledge, and a community of women going through the same experience.
Deluxe Birthing Suites
When it’s time to deliver, you’ll do it in one of our private labor and delivery suites, designed with your comfort in mind. Every suite includes a recliner, television, and private shower. Our labor and delivery unit has top physicians on-site 24 hours a day to manage any emergency, with midwife services also available.
Obstetric Anesthesia, Center of Excellence
UAMS is the only hospital in Arkansas designated a Center of Excellence for Obstetric Anesthesia by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. Our fellowship-trained obstetric anesthesiologists are the only ones of their kind in the state, which means the highest standard of pain management and safety during your delivery.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
If your baby needs specialized care after birth, the UAMS NICU is staffed by neonatologists and nurses experienced in caring for premature and medically complex newborns, using the latest technology available.
Genetic Counseling and Prenatal Screening
Our certified genetic counselors help you understand your options for prenatal genetic screening and diagnostic testing, including amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, and can guide you through results and next steps.
Prenatal Classes and Education
We offer a full range of prenatal education classes covering labor preparation, breastfeeding, newborn care, sibling preparation, and more. Our patient education specialists help you feel ready before your baby arrives.
Postpartum Support
The weeks after delivery matter just as much as the months before. We provide postpartum follow-up care, breastfeeding and lactation support, and screening and treatment for postpartum depression.
