Treatment/Procedure: Subclavian Vein Stenting

Also called: SCV Stenting

If there is narrowing (stenosis) in your subclavian artery, which is often used as the location for a “central line,” your doctor may need to insert a stent to correct the problem.  The surgeon will insert a tube (called a catheter) with a small wire cage on the end into the subclavian artery.  Once the tube reaches the narrowed section, the surgeon will expand the wire mesh to reopen and strengthen the walls of the vein, restoring normal blood flow.
