Treatment/Procedure: Mesh Sling Procedure

Also called: tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) surgery; midurethral sling

A mesh sling procedure, also known as a midurethral sling or tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) surgery, is a surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. Stress urinary incontinence occurs when physical activities such as coughing, sneezing, or exercising cause unintentional urine leakage. The mesh sling provides support to the urethra, preventing urine leakage during these activities.

Purpose:

The primary goal of the mesh sling procedure is to treat stress urinary incontinence by providing extra support to the urethra. This procedure is especially beneficial for women whose incontinence is caused by weakened pelvic muscles, often due to childbirth, aging, or menopause.
