Maximize your Vision
Low vision occupational therapy helps individuals with low vision maximize their remaining vision and adapt their daily activities and environments to be as independent as possible. Therapy aims to educate, empower, connect, and train individuals on visual skills, tools, and resources.
How We Can Help
- Maximizing remaining vision: OTs teach visual skills like eccentric viewing (using peripheral vision to compensate for central vision loss), visual field cut, and visual tracking, Bioptic pre-driving training, as well as strategies for using magnification aids and devices.
- Adapting the environment: OTs help create a safer and more functional home environment by addressing lighting, glare, contrast, and clutter.
- Utilizing assistive technology: OTs can help individuals learn to use assistive devices like magnifiers, electronic readers, and other technology that can aid in reading, writing, and other daily tasks.
- Training and support: OTs provide training in various activities, such as medication management, meal preparation, and personal care, to promote independence.
- Orientation and mobility training: OTs can help individuals navigate their environment more confidently and safely, using techniques like tactile marking and orientation aids.
