Also called: Splenic Tissue Scan
A Denatured (Heat-Damaged) Red Blood Cells (RBC) Scan is a specialized nuclear medicine imaging procedure used to evaluate the function of the spleen and sometimes to identify splenic tissue in unusual locations (such as accessory spleens or splenosis). This scan uses red blood cells that have been intentionally heat-damaged (denatured) to assess how well the spleen is functioning and to detect any abnormal splenic tissue.
