Treatment/Procedure: Aneurysm Repairs

Also called: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair; Aortic Aneurysm Repair; Mesenteric Aneurysm Repair; Thoracic Aneurysm Repair; Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair; Thoracoabdominal Aneurysm Repair; Popliteal Aneurysm Repair

Aneurysm repair surgery is divided into two sections, open repair and endovascular (inside the blood vessel). As you might expect, open repair is when a surgeon opens the body to get direct access to the weakened vessel in order to remove and replace it with a graft. Endovascular repair carries a lower risk and has a faster recovery time. The surgeon sends a wire with a mesh tube through the blood vessel to the weakened area and then expands the mesh to strengthen the weak spot.
