Gamma Knife Perfexion Physician

Gamma Knife technology has become a vital treatment option we offer at UAMS for select patients diagnosed with a variety of brain diseases, including:

  • Benign and malignant brain tumors
  • Metastatic brain tumors
  • Vascular malformations in the brain
  • Functional disorders of the brain such as trigeminal neuralgia

Gamma Knife treatment provides a variety of benefits for patients, including:

  • A safe, FDA approved treatment option with over 40 years of clinical use and 3,000 peer-reviewed clinical studies supporting its use
  • A noninvasive method that allows for full cranial reach including the skull base
  • A quick, one session, outpatient treatment that does not interrupt ongoing chemotherapy, allowing patients to come from any area of the state and return home quickly
  • Fast return to pretreatment activities with little or no rehabilitative services required
  • A procedure covered by most insurance companies, including Medicare

The UAMS Gamma Knife Center has helped over 900 patients with a variety of brain diseases by offering this unique, noninvasive treatment option not available elsewhere in the state of Arkansas. Gamma Knife is an excellent treatment option for patients who:

  • Have disease that is surgically inaccessible
  • Possess risk factors or other co-morbidities that make surgery or general anesthesia inadvisable
  • Have residual or recurrent disease following surgery
  • Have had other therapies and still require additional treatment to control the disease process
  • Do not wish to undergo surgery or other forms of radiation therapy

Our multidisciplinary team, which consists of a neurosurgeon, radiation oncologist and physicist with specialty Gamma Knife training, meets with other UAMS specialists to discuss each case’s appropriateness for treatment during our Gamma Knife Case Conference.
