Here for You

UAMS is home to Arkansas’ only adult kidney and liver transplant center, a program with a legacy of excellence that began in 1964 with the state’s first kidney transplant. In 2005, UAMS further advanced transplant care by performing Arkansas’ first liver transplant. Through strategic collaboration with Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA), UAMS has achieved some of the shortest transplant wait times in the nation, along with patient outcomes that consistently surpass national benchmarks.

Multidisciplinary Organ Transplant Team

To provide comprehensive, patient-centered care, the UAMS Solid Organ Transplant Program employs a highly specialized, multidisciplinary team. This team includes dedicated transplant surgeons, nephrologists (kidney doctors), hepatologists (liver doctors), and nurse practitioners, supported by expertly trained professionals such as transplant nurse coordinators, pharmacists, dietitians, financial coordinators, and social workers. Together, they deliver compassionate, collaborative care throughout every stage of the transplant journey.

Patient-Centered Care

With deep expertise in organ transplantation, the UAMS transplant team ensures that patients across Arkansas and the surrounding region have access to world-class care—without having to leave home. We are committed to empowering patients and their families through comprehensive education at every stage of the transplant journey. Our personalized education programs help patients understand transplant eligibility requirements, surgical procedures, transplant medications, and post-transplant recovery, including necessary lifestyle adjustments. This collaborative, informed approach enables patients and families to take an active role in their care.

Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients

The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) provides comprehensive, publicly available data on transplant program outcomes across the United States. These reports include key performance indicators such as patient and graft survival rates, transplant volumes, and waitlist times. At UAMS, we are proud that our outcomes consistently exceed national benchmarks, as reflected in SRTR data. These reports help patients, families, and referring providers make informed decisions when choosing a transplant center and reflect our ongoing commitment to transparency, quality, and excellence in transplant care.
