About Dr. Culp
Dr. Culp graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine with his medical degree in 1967. He then completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Culp is the Vice-Chair of Research for the department and was recently invested as the first recipient of the Jonathan S. Fitch Distinguished Chair in Stroke and Neurocritical Care. For nearly two decades, he practiced general radiology in Ft. Smith. Then, at age 52, he left private practice to enroll in a VIR fellowship at the University of Nebraska. Post-fellowship, he held academic appointments at the University of Florida and the University of Nebraska, and then joined the UAMS College of Medicine in 2001. Since his mid-life career change, Bill has published 70 peer-reviewed papers, most often as first author, and has received approximately $4,000,000 in grant funding. The largest award was in excess of $2 million from NIH/NHLBI. Dr. Culp is patron co-founder of the UAMS Fund to Cure Stroke, which supports diverse stroke-related research. He also facilitates high-quality studies in many areas, including his primary focus of stroke and new approaches to stroke treatment. He holds two patents involving innovative stroke therapies, and a third patent is pending. Dr. Culp received his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Vascular and Interventional Radiology in 1998.
