About Dr. Grammer
Clinical Biography
W. Cody Grammer, M.D., FAAOS, FAAHKS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in joint reconstruction and replacement surgery of the hip and knee. He currently sees patients at the UAMS Health Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in Lowell. Beginning November 18, 2025, Dr. Grammer will see patients at the new UAMS Health Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic located at 609 SW 8th Street in Bentonville.

Dr. Grammer has deep family roots in Arkansas, with ties that stretch back over 150 years. He grew up in Northwest Arkansas and attended Fayetteville High School, where he participated in a variety of sports including football, baseball, golf, shot put, and discus.
Dr. Grammer’s special interests include direct anterior hip replacement, partial knee replacement, artificial intelligence applications in hip replacement, robotics-assisted knee replacement, low or no opioid joint replacement, and same-day joint replacement procedures.
Dr. Grammer has been married to his wife Amy for over 35 years. Their daughter, Jay Marie, recently returned to Northwest Arkansas after living in Seoul, South Korea for ten years as a singer-songwriter.

Academic Biography
Dr. Grammer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation.
Following high school, Dr. Grammer was accepted to the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. This opportunity led to his appointment at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he continued his athletic pursuits on the junior varsity football team and as a member and eventual captain of the powerlifting team. Under his leadership, the powerlifting team achieved a third-place national finish.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Grammer was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He completed infantry training at The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, and then attended Flight School at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, where he earned his Naval Aviator Wings. As a Marine pilot, he flew the CH-46E helicopter in diverse locations such as Hawaii, the Philippines, and Okinawa. His designations included aircraft commander, division leader, night vision goggle instructor, and terrain flight instructor.
Dr. Grammer pursued his medical education at UAMS in Little Rock, where he completed medical school, internship, and orthopedic residency. After residency, he entered general orthopedics practice, first in Batesville, Arkansas, and later in Rogers with Ozark Orthopedics. He practiced general orthopedics for 11 years before returning to UAMS for a fellowship in Joint Reconstruction.
Throughout his career, Dr. Grammer has worked as a physician champion and director for two successful joint replacement programs. He has served patients in Northwest Arkansas for more than 16 years prior to joining UAMS from Mercy. He was elected and currently serves as the Arkansas Representative to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Councilors.
Dr. Grammer is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and a Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (FAAHKS). These designations represent board-certified orthopedic surgeons who meet the rigorous standards required of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
