Sara C. Shalin, M.D., Ph.D. Dermatopathologist

Academic Biography

Sara C. Shalin, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor in the Departments of Pathology and Dermatology, and Chair of Dermatology. She serves as the section director of the UAMS Outreach Laboratory, Histology, and Immunohistochemistry sections and as associate program director of the Dermatopathology fellowship at UAMS.

Dr. Shalin graduated from a combined M.D./Ph.D. program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She completed her Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2006 and completed her medical degree in 2007. She remained in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine where she completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and served as chief resident in 2010-2011. She then completed her dermatopathology fellowship training in Boston at the Harvard Hospitals Combined Dermatopathology program. Dr. Shalin was recruited to UAMS in 2012. She maintains an active interest and research collaborations in melanoma pathogenesis and biology as well as the pathology of inflammatory diseases of the skin and other cutaneous malignancies.

Dr. Shalin is board certified in dermatopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology and is actively involved in national pathology and dermatopathology societies.
