Dr. Katherine Irby is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and practices at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. She serves as the director of the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program and as the research director for the Pediatrics Honors Program.
Dr. Irby joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children’s Hospital in 2015 after completing her pediatric critical care medicine fellowship and residency training at UAMS/ACH. Prior to joining UAMS, she completed her undergraduate training at Loyola University New Orleans.
She is board-certified in pediatric critical care and general pediatrics. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Critical Care, and PALISI.
She has or is currently serving as the site principal investigator or co-principal investigator for several multi-institutional clinical trials including PROSpect, DOSE, PARDIE, SCAMP, PICU-Flu, VIRUS, Overcoming COVID, and PARK PICU.

Dr. Irby's Research
She serves as the Research Director for the Pediatrics Honors Program. She runs a pediatric critical care medicine fellow research curriculum, providing direct oversight for all fellow projects, in addition to the fellow’s primary research mentor. Additionally, she is conducting research on interventions to minimize delirium and better understand long-term patient and family outcomes associated with delirium with the assistance of funding through the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute.
