About Dr. Thomas
Dr. Mark S. Thomas graduated from University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1989 and completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa in 1992. For one year following his residency graduation Dr. Thomas was an Assistant Professor and Clerkship Director at his residency alma mater. From 1993-1996 Dr. Thomas was a Staff Clinician for the La Familia Community Health Center and Santa Fe Family Health Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Also during that time he was the Medical Director of the Pecos Valley Rural Health Center, and served as a Volunteer Clinical Instructor for the University of Utah’s Physician Assistant Program.
Joining the faculty of the AHEC-NW Family Medicine Residency Program in 1996, Dr. Thomas is an Assistant Professor in the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. He currently practices in our residency program’s second Family Medicine center, the Northwest Family Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas and maintains an active clinical practice. He serves in the residency program as the Project Manager for Logician (electronic medical record) in the Springdale Family Medicine center. Dr. Thomas was the Principal Investigator for a $300,000 HRSA Training Grant which developed and implemented a statewide curriculum to train Family Medicine residents in the use of the electronic medical record. The recipient of the 1999-2000 “Teacher of the Year” award, Dr. Thomas is valued as a fine educator, and is recognized for his use of Evidence-Based Medicine in his approach to teaching and patient care.
Originally from New Hampshire, Dr. Thomas received his AB in Economics from Harvard College in 1982. He was a Research Assistant from 1982-84 at the Harvard Business and Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Thomas and his two children live in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
