About Dr. Smith
Clinical Biography
Dr. Jacob Smith is a sports medicine physician and an assistant professor in the UAMS Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He specializes in the care of athletes and active individuals, with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related and other musculoskeletal injuries to help restore movement and function, optimize performance, and reduce the risk of re-injury. He sees patients at the UAMS Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Clinics in Fayetteville and Lowell.
A former pitcher for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team, Dr. Smith earned both his medical degree and Master of Public Health degree from UAMS in Little Rock. He completed his family medicine residency at the nationally ranked John Peter Smith Hospital Network in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at UAMS in Northwest Arkansas.
Dr. Smith provides comprehensive care for athletes of all ages and skills – from competitive student-athletes at colleges and high schools to participants in the area’s many sporting events to individuals who want to stay active throughout their lives. His care includes treatment for everything from sprains and strains to sports-related concussions, broken bones, and arthritis.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has been appointed to the World Baseball and Softball Confederation Medical Advisory Committee as well as the Nicaraguan Olympic Sports Medicine Congress Planning Committee.
