About Dr. Tompkins
Clinical Biography
Dr. Esther Tompkins is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She received her B.A. in Biology from Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. After working as a physical therapy technician for a little over a year, she attended Northwestern University Medical School Program in Physical Therapy in Chicago, Illinois and received a B.S. in physical therapy. Dr. Tompkins returned to medical school to become a physician but more specifically as a Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. She earned her D.O. degree in 1994 from the University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. After completing her one year osteopathic internship year at Doctor’s Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, she did a five year residency program of combined Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. She is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Tompkins came to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in 2000 and loves working with children; especially those who have a disability either by birth or by trauma or illness. Her PM&R practice includes both, inpatient acute rehabilitation and long term outpatient rehabilitation. Her special interests are spasticity management including the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound and doing Electromyogram (EMG) with Nerve Condition Studies (NCS). Dr. Tompkins services on the Trauma Committee and the Inpatient (Med/Surg) Committee at Arkansas Children’s House.
