Dr. Elena Ambrogini is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at UAMS and staff endocrinologist at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.
Dr. Ambrogini's Academic Background
Academic Biography
Dr. Ambrogini received her medical degree, summa cum laude, as well as a doctorate in endocrine and metabolic sciences from the University of Pisa in Italy. She completed her clinical fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Pisa, and internal medicine residency and a second clinical fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at UAMS. She is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. She is a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the Endocrine Society.

Dr. Ambrogini's Research
Dr. Ambrogini’s particular areas of clinical expertise include thyroid and parathyroid diseases, osteoporosis, other metabolic bone disorders, and general endocrinology. She is a clinician scientist and conducts basic and clinical studies of diseases of bone and calcium metabolism with funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The focus of her research is the pathophysiology of osteoporosis and the development of novel therapies that may treat osteoporosis and atherosclerosis simultaneously. Her studies have been presented at national and international meetings and published in high impact scientific journals.
