About Dr. Riley
Clinical Biography
Cara Riley, DO, is part of the UAMS Northwest Internal Medicine team that helps teach our residents in their continuity clinics at Butterfield Trail Village and on the UAMS Northwest Campus.
Dr. Riley was born and raised in Springdale, Arkansas and graduated from the old Springdale high school in 1992. After spending a year at Hendrix, she transferred back up to the University Of Arkansas where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biology. Dr. Riley entered OSU college of osteopathic medicine in 1996 and then Internal Medicine residency at the OSU-HSC in 2000. She and Phil Riley got married when they were interns and did all their training together.
Phil and Cara moved back to Bentonville in 2007 and have both been working at Mercy hospital since 2010. Cara‘s practice has primarily focused on geriatrics and she has been helping out nights and weekends at Circle Of Life hospice for quite a few years. After 25 years of corporate medicine, Cara is excited to start educating the next generation.
Fun facts: Cara was born at the old Washington Regional where one of the outpatient clinics is now located and spent many years of her youth at Butterfield Trail Village, where all of her grandparents lived until they passed away in the early 2000s. In her free time, Dr. Riley loves to read and listen to books, listen to live music, do yoga and Pilates, garden, cook, and bake

The resident and my primary care doctor listened to my health concerns and answered my questions clearly. I am grateful.

At the request of the anesthesiologist, I needed a pre-op physical for my upcoming [PROCEDURE]. I think they were concerned about my elevated BP at the ophthalmologist's office. My blood pressure is always elevated in the doctor's office and normal/ at target on my home readings which I bring to every visit. The resident and attending physician who saw me were not my primary care resident and physician. The resident and attending did not seem to know what history, physical exam and testing where necessary for this out patient, low CV risk surgery. Neither the resident nor attending demonstrated correct heart and lung PE skills - the stethoscope was placed on my clothing and not on my skin. The resident recommended seeing a cardiologist and a "base line ECHO." My wife, who was with me, is a [PHI]. She was able to discuss with the resident that there is no indication for seeing a cardiologist and no indication for an ECHO. I have no CV symptoms or history, exercise a minimum of 6 hours per week and have had no past CV events. I do have CKD which is controlled and improved. Dr. Reilly the attending agreed with this. However, she thinks my BP should be lower. We discussed that I am [PATIENT AGE] with no CV events and home BPs <150/90 90% of the time. She has asked me to start a third BP med. I am doing this but at 1/2 a tab, 25mg losartan, watching my BP and symptoms. Dr. Reilly is kind and listens well. I realize she was at the end of a busier than expected day. She is an experienced physician but new to this practice.

Again, I feel privileged to have such a facility in the building where I live. Regardless of how I feel or the weather, I can see a doctor or nurse here.
