I didn't feel as if I was totally listened to. I didn't get a diagnosis as to what caused my to be sick instead told to go to the ER to treat one of the symptoms.

Dr did not mention or discuss low blood pressure readings. (Did he notice?) Also, I asked him for a referral to a counselor. He went to a lot of effort to get one, but then forgot(?) to give it to me.

Dr Patel has been my PCP for over two years. While I have never been incredibly impressed with him (as he often seems flippant and dismissive of any concerns), I am a very healthy individual who rarely has serious health problems, so I have maintained him as my PCP. That will no longer be the case. If Dr Patel was aware of my medical history, or even listened when I reiterated it to him, he would have noted I was hospitalized for severe [DIAGNOSIS] as a teenager. The inflammation I suffered from that illness caused permanent scarring in my throat which still affects me to this day. Namely, throat infections, such as strep, etc, cause me debilitating pain. For three days prior to my visit with Patel I battled throat pain from an unknown source, pain that no OTC remedy was able to alleviate or even ease. I tried every NSAID available, every topical mouthwash and rise. Nothing was helping. By day 3 the pain had escalated so badly I was unable to eat. I do not like to visit medical providers particularly, but my wife made me go the urgent care center, as she was worried. I made a trip to the urgent care facility, which the doctor gave one look at my throat, could tell how severe my pain was, and gave me a [MEDICATION] injection and recommended I follow up with my PCP immediately to get a small pain medication prescription (enough for a few days). So I went to Patel. I expressed my pain and the severity to Patel, and was told, almost immediately, he "does not write pain medication under any circumstances". To add insult to injury he noted after my visit, in my medical chart, that I was "aggravated that he would not prescribe medication". I was absolutely aggravated, but not at his refusal to administer medication - I was irritated at his refusal to listen to me, or to direct me to someone who was capable of helping me. If Patel actually cannot write certain medications, so be it, but the least he could do was hear my concerns, and advise me of next steps to someone who could help me. This was not the case. He simply just stared at the computer our entire visit, typing notes, giving little to no care about me, an actual patient, sitting in the exam room. Furthermore, to actually be in this level of pain, to have an established relationship with a provider, to have no history of ever asking for this type of help, the response and subsequent notes in my chart are wholly unprofessional, and in my personal opinion, unethical. I will not be recommending him to anyone nor will I be returning to use him as my PCP any longer. He is more concerned with simply sitting in front of the computer, giving canned responses, and ignoring the histories and concerns of his patients than he is with providing actual care.

I had to switch providers. I was seeing [PROVIDER]. I have never had a problem with any other doctor providing the care that I needed at uams until my visit on [DATE]. Dr. Patel right off the bat was trying to change medication I have been on for 18 years and basically gave me the options to try something else or I needed to find a new doctor, which is very unprofessional. He does not care for his patients. He has made it so inconvenient he refused to give a 3 month supply of medication which normally what I receive, and now I have to take off work yet again to find another provider who can take care of my medical needs. This is a form of medical neglect by a provider I have seen one time and is not familiar with my medical history. I am really sad to leave cause I've been a patient for 7 + years, and all because of one staff member not willing to help a patient I will not be going back.
