Developed as a project of the UAMS Medical Center Pastoral Care Board, the chapel was funded by a major grant from the Walton Family Foundation, Inc., and gifts from members of the Board. The chapel is named in memory of Sam Walton, founder of Wal- Mart Stores and a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church.
The Samuel Moore Walton Memorial Chapel was dedicated on March 14, 1999. The Reverend Wendell Griffin, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and Justice of the Arkansas Court of Appeals was the guest speaker. Special music was provided by the Madrigal Choir of Parkview High School for the Arts and Sciences.
