Seminary settings typically provide an academic environment for the study of pastoral theology. In contrast, the CPE center provides the clinical basis for learning. The UAMS Medical Center is the state’s only academic medical center and is responsible for training more than 80 percent of the physicians in Arkansas, as well as most other medical professionals.
The UAMS Medical Center is a 400-bed teaching hospital with extensive outpatient clinics and emergency services. We are proud of the wide range of high-quality healthcare services we provide for people from all parts of the state and nation. A particular strength of this center for pastoral learning is that patients and staff cover the full range of cultural and socioeconomic groups in our society.
UAMS centers of excellence include the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, and Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.
UAMS Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center and comprises some 400 inpatient beds. The Medical Center treats 375,525 outpatients annually.
