Sixty-seven Complete Voter Registration Forms in UAMS Drive 2018-01-05T09:16:54+00:00

OCT. 4, 2006 | The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) collected 67 completed voter registration forms during its recent campus registration drive.

The forms were delivered to the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office on Monday, Oct. 2, meaning those who registered will be eligible to vote in the Nov. 7 general election.

Voter registration booths were scheduled and staffed around campus by Marti Morrison, special projects coordinator in the UAMS governmental affairs office. She said those who filled out the forms expressed their appreciation for having such a convenient opportunity to register. An additional 20 registration forms were taken by people who said they would mail them later.

Registration opportunities also are available online. At
http://www.sos.arkansas.gov/elections_register_vote.html, the Secretary of State’s Office Web site provides a printable form that can be mailed. New voters with forms postmarked by Oct. 8 will be allowed to vote in the upcoming election.

The Nov. 7 election includes a ballot issue that is vital to Arkansas – the higher education bond program. The bond program would enable UAMS to add classroom space that will be essential to helping offset a major health care work force shortage.

The bond program will help all of the state’s public colleges keep pace with record enrollment increases and stay competitive with neighboring states.
