JAN. 23, 2004 | William J. Evans, Ph.D., professor in the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics in the UAMS College of Medicine will be interviewed Monday night, Jan. 26, at 5:30 p.m. on the CBS Nightly News with Dan Rather.
Evans, will discuss UAMS research being released Monday in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine that shows older people can lose weight on a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, even if they eat until they are satisfied and do not reduce the calories they consume. The article is based on a 12-week study funded by the National Institute on Aging. Other investigators in the research included Nicholas Hays, Ph.D., Raymond Starling, Ph.D., Dr Xiaolan Liu, Ph.D., Dennis Sullivan, Ph.D., Todd Trappe, Ph.D., and James Fluckey, Ph.D.
The CBS News broadcast will also include an interview with Ruthie Gentry Ford of North Little Rock, one of the participants in the UAMS study, at her home.
Evans is director of the Nutrition, Metabolism, and Exercise Laboratory in the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics, College of Medicine, UAMS, and is affiliated with the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.
