First Helen May Compassionate Care Award Ceremony Held Tuesday, February 17 2018-01-05T09:11:33+00:00

Colleen Jordan, a nurse in the UAMS Emergency Department, was named the winner of the first Helen May Compassionate Care Award Feb. 17 at a ceremony held in the Chancellor’s Board Room. A 14-year veteran of the ER, Jordan was one of 34 UAMS staff members nominated for the honor, named after May, who died in 2001 after working at UAMS for 11 years. The award was created to honor May, a former patient representative and staff education instructor, and was sponsored by UAMS’ CARE (Compassion, Attitude, Respect, Excellence) program.

Jordan was one of five finalists for the award, designed to recognize employees for their efforts to serve UAMS’ patients. The other finalists were Mary Jo Deaton, a social worker with the Case Coordination office, Perry DeJarnette, a respiratory therapist, Debbie Hauk, a diabetic educator with Patient Education and John Mooney, a social worker with Case Coordination.

All nominees for the award received certificates of recognition at the ceremony, with the finalists receiving lapel pins. Jim May, director of Treasury Operations in the UAMS Treasurer’s Office and May’s husband, was on hand to present the top award to Jordan.
