OCT. 11, 2001 | “Promotion and Tenure: Where Does Collaborative Scholarship Fit?” will be the topic of the morning session at an annual professional development conference Oct. 30 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Another morning panel will discuss “How to Cooperate on Scholarly Activities without Losing Your Poise.”

The Women’s Faculty Development Caucus, through the Office of Faculty Development, will sponsor the 11th Annual Professional Development Day Tues., Oct. 30. The conference will be in Brandon Conference Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

(See a map of the ACH campus.) Registration, including continental breakfast and lunch, is $40. Registration forms are available from the Office of Faculty Development (661-7965) or by e-mailing CooperGlendaJ@uams.edu.
Six hours of Category 1 Continuing Medical Education credit will be available. (The UAMS College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.)

The conference theme will be “Balancing the Worlds in Academic Medicine: To Teach, to Search, to Heal, to Serve.”

The associate director of the Office of Extramural Affairs of the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging, and an associate dean of the University of Kentucky will speak at the conference. Several UAMS faculty members and a grant writer also will speak.

Joanne Szabo, M.D., is chair of the program. Linda Worley, M.D., is president of the women’s caucus. Drs. Szabo and Worley will preside and John P. Shock, M.D., executive vice chancellor and interim dean of the College of Medicine, will welcome participants.
