UAMS Cardiologist to Run in Olympic Torch Relay 2018-01-05T08:53:02+00:00

DEC. 13, 2001 | Jorge Saucedo, M.D., interventional cardiologist and assistant professor of internal medicine, won the honor of serving as a torchbearer during a stretch of the two-month relay to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Saucedo will run his segment of the journey in Louisville, Ken., Dec. 17.

“I am a believer in the Olympic spirit and being part of the torch relay is a great honor for me,” says Dr. Saucedo.  A sprinter in college, he won a National Championship relay race in Mexico and continues to maintain a healthy exercise routine.

“Exercising is central in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. Cardiac and other organ benefits have been linked to running, walking or by maintaining a physically active lifestyle,” he says.  Dr. Saucedo does not plan to run very fast when carrying the torch.  “I want to enjoy every second of my segment.”

Jorge Saucedo, M.D., practices to carry the torch in the Olympic Torch Relay to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
