Pain Management Symposium April 28 to Focus on Pain Management Solutions for Primary Care Providers
| April 6, 2018 | Health care professionals are invited to the 2018 Arkansas Pain Management Symposium on April 28 at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). It is designed to provide high-quality continuing education to an interprofessional audience to improve chronic pain treatment in the state.
The symposium will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the UAMS Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute.
Cost is $200 for physicians and $150 for other health care professionals. For more information or to register, click here.
Symposium speakers will address such questions as: How do you wean opiates? Does alternative medicine work for chronic pain? When should I refer to a pain specialist?
Other topics will include the newest innovations in neuromodulation, medical marijuana and new information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Arkansas Department of Health.
Guest presenter Eugene Hillsman of San Francisco will speak about marijuana policy development, the drug as a subject of political controversy and the impact of the War on Drugs on disadvantaged communities. He defended his dissertation on marijuana policy at Princeton University and works for the San Francisco Office of Cannabis.
Kirk Lane, director of the Arkansas Drug Task Force, also will speak about Arkansas law and policy regarding opiates. Lane served for more than 20 years in the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and was chief of police for the Benton Police Department from 2009 until his July 2017 appointment to lead the task force.
