Graduate Students Collecting School Supplies for Louisiana Children

By Yavonda Chase

Aug. 18, 2016 | The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is collecting school supplies and toiletries for students at the McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School for Visual and Performing Arts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

At least 12 people have died in flooding in Louisiana since a storm last week dumped as much as two feet of rain in 48 hours.

Tiffany Miles, a graduate student in the biochemistry department, will be making trips to drop off supplies at McKinley, where she was once a teacher and her mother still works.

There are several collection points on campus:

  • Biomed I Atrium
  • Graduate Student Association Lounge (Biomed II, fourth floor near elevators)
  • Outside Biomed I, Room 424B (just across the walkway from the Barton Building)
  • Library
  • Residence Hall
  • If you would like to donate items and cannot access any of the drop-off areas, email the GSA at graduatestudentassociation@uams.edu and they will arrange to meet with you.
