Pregnant Women Sought for UAMS Nutrition Study
| LITTLE ROCK – Pregnant women are needed for a long-term nutrition research study being led by University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) researchers at the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center.
Called the “Expecting” study, its purpose is to determine how the health and physical activity of a mother during pregnancy could affect the growth and development of her child. The study is for moms who are less than 12 weeks pregnant.
Study participants will be “randomized” into one of two study groups, with one group required to exercise three days per week during pregnancy. All participants will receive standard care from their OB/Gyn clinic and are required to attend three research visits during pregnancy. Participants will have an equal chance of being placed in either group.
A second part of the study begins about two weeks after birth, with five visits required by the baby’s second birthday. Researchers will evaluate the baby’s growth and development, physical activity, and blood and urine. Participants will be compensated for their time.
