LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center Auxiliary invites the public to a June 13 fundraiser to support the installation of healing art throughout the hospital’s patient areas.
The event will be held from 7 – 9:30 p.m. on the 12th floor of the UAMS Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute and will include a live and silent auction, food, beer, wine and champagne. To purchase tickets contact Erin Gray, director of the UAMS Medical Center Volunteer Services and Auxiliary, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (501) 686-5656.
Three live auction items will include artwork that will be completed at the event by local artists including Pat Matthews, Jane F. Hankins and Tracee Gentry-Matthews. A UAMS patient also will speak about the importance of being in a healing environment.
“There has been a lot of research demonstrating how art contributes to healing in health care facilities,” said Roxane Townsend, M.D., CEO of the UAMS Medical Center. “It contributes to shorter, more restful hospital stays and better outcomes.”
An ongoing project to place healing art throughout patient areas in the UAMS Medical Center is nearly half complete, and funds collected through from this event will be matched by an anonymous foundation for the UAMS Arts Acquisition Fund to complete the effort.
UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a northwest Arkansas regional campus; a statewide network of regional centers; and seven institutes: the Winthrop P.
