Dec. 9, 2013 | This year’s Hollyday Concert at UAMS was pleasantly interrupted by a jolly group of employees who pulled off the first-ever flash mob during the annual showcase of festive performances.

Just as Marcus Murphy, an Academic Services employee, plunked the first few notes behind the piano for his intimate performance of “Mary, Did You Know?,” the aesthetic distance was shattered as an employee stood up and began singing “Deck the Halls.” Right on cue, other employees in on the gag began standing and trading verses before the group came together on stage to finish the number as the rest of the crowd sang along.

The flash mob, directed by Lauren Farabough of the Office of Communications & Marketing, wasn’t listed in the program and caught most in attendance off guard.

“Who knows what might happen next?” said Roxane Townsend, M.D., UAMS Medical Center CEO and vice chancellor of Clinical Programs, who emceed the event. “You have to be on your toes around here at all times.”

Sponsored by the UAMS Hospital Administration and Auxiliary, the annual event was part of a series of events at UAMS called Friday Live @ UAMS.
