Medical student James Shepherd Russell IV received the 2012 Lawrence E. Scheving Award.

Russell, who will graduate in 2015, also received a $100 honorarium to go with the award. He is the son of Shep and Ellen Russell of Little Rock.

The award was established on behalf of the late Lawrence Scheving, Ph.D., who was a UAMS College of Medicine faculty member for 20 years until his retirement in 1990. Friends and colleagues who established the award in 2004 described Scheving as an outstanding teacher and researcher with an international reputation.
